「10代の頃に法事に参加した時、長男を産んだばかりの親戚がいたのですが、20人くらいいる男性の前で乳房を出して授乳を始めた。というか、強引にさせられていましたね。韓国で長男は“宝物”とされ、そうするのが風習だというのですが、当時はまだ知らなかったので驚きました」

　ソウルで新婚生活を始めたばかりのイ・ヨンミさん（仮名）は「結婚してからが本当に大変……」とため息をつく。

「毎日一回は必ず姑さんに電話してその日にあった出来事を報告し、週末になれば決まって夫の実家で食事。準備はすべて私がやるんですよ。夫は『そうするのが当然』と言って味方になってくれません。付き合っている頃はデートのエスコートやサプライズで尽くしてくれたのに、結婚した途端に人が変わったみたい」

　さらにイさんが続ける。
　
「韓国では新婚女性の立場を表わすのに『見ざる3年、聞かざる3年、言わざる3年』と言います。人権なしの状態が9年間も続くという意味。大袈裟ではありません。ごく一般的な家庭がそうです」

　韓国では近年、「女性緊急電話（＊注）」の利用者が増えており、今年6月発表の統計では家庭内暴力（DV）が全相談件数の42.6％を占める。結婚後に暴力を振るう男性がこれほど多いのは、女性の人権が蔑ろにされている証拠だ。

　企業にも女性蔑視がある。ある女子大生は助教授に就職の相談をしたところ、こんな言葉を投げかけられた。

「あなたは“サムスン型”の顔じゃないよ。これまで就職に成功した卒業生をたくさん見てきた。企業ごとに受ける顔があって、顔を見ればどの会社に向いているのかわかるものだよ」

　“サムスン型”が本当にあるかどうかは不明だが、面接で好印象を与えるために整形する女子学生は多い。

　そうまでして内定を勝ち取っても、その先にはさらに厳しい現実が待ち構えている。能力を発揮できる場を与えられることは稀で、男性社員の補助要員として職場の“お飾り”にされてしまう。

「性接待」を強要されることもある。今年5月に投身自殺した26歳の女性消防士は、同僚らの証言によると、職場関係の飲み会のたびに性行為を強要されていたといい、現在警察が捜査中だ。

　内閣府（日本）がまとめた2013年版男女共同参画白書によれば、韓国の女性管理職の比率はわずか9.4％。アメリカ43％、イギリス35.7％、フランス38.7％などに比べると圧倒的に低い。日本も11.1％とかなり低いが、韓国はそれをさらに下回る。

　OECD（経済協力開発機構）の調査では、韓国の男性の平均賃金を100としたとき、女性の賃金は61。格差は39％となっている。これは統計がある加盟国平均15％の2.6倍で、ワースト1位だ（2010年）。

　今年、史上初の女性大統領が誕生し、大きく変革を遂げたイメージがあるが、国際社会の尊敬を得るには程遠い現実がある。
