権藤博氏が語る落合私が仕えた監督たちとは違う

今季限りでの退任が決まった中日・高木守道監督の後任に、前監督の落合博満（５９）の名前が取りざたされている。

　落合前監督は１１年シーズン限りで退団。球団フロントは、８年間の長期政権によるマンネリとそれによる観客動員減を理由に、リーグ優勝を果たしながらクビを切った。たった２年でその前監督を呼び戻すことになるとしたら、格好のいい話ではない。

　関係者は複雑だろうが、今季１２年ぶりのＢクラスに沈んだ今の中日を立て直すには、落合が最適任だと私は思う。在任中、優勝すること４度。２位からクライマックスシリーズ（ＣＳ）を勝ち抜いた０７年にはチームを５３年ぶりの日本一に導き、８年で一度もＢクラスに落ちなかった。

　落合という監督の凄みはなにか。改めて考えていた矢先の先日、落合の右腕として辣腕を振るった森繁和前ヘッドコーチと話す機会があった。森は落合から「オレは投手のことは分からん。すべておまえに任せる」と投手陣の全権を委任されていたというのが通説になっているが、実は私は信じていなかった。

　私はこれまで計４球団で延べ１８年、投手コーチを務めた。仕えたほとんどの監督が「投手のことはすべて任せる」と最初は言うものの、その約束が守られることはまずなかった。特に野手出身の監督はとにかく動きたがる。一年のシーズンをトータルで考える私が、「ここは我慢。ここで投手をコロコロ代えたら、最後まで投手が持たない」と進言しても、まず聞く耳を持たない。近鉄時代の仰木監督も昨年の高木監督もそうだった。必然的に監督と投手コーチは衝突してしまう。

　しかし、森は「いや、落合さんは本当に投手のことには一切、口を出さない。その日の先発投手を当日の試合前に知ってたくらい。継投もすべて自分に任せてもらいました」と言った。これが、監督落合の凄さだろう。

　オレは投手のことは分からん、という落合の言葉を真に受けるわけにはいかない。投手コーチを天職だと思っている私も実は、野手の方にむしろ一家言を持っている。常に投手の視線で打者を見るから、「そんなバッティングをしていたら、相手投手はラクなもの」「さっきのボールを狙われたら、向こうのバッテリーは困る。それでいいんだ」と、下手な打撃コーチより有益なアドバイスができると自負している。

　あれだけの大打者だった落合博満が、投手のことを分からないわけがない。誰よりも鋭い視線で、投手を分析できるはずである。にもかかわらず、「オレは分からんから」と言い、本当に口を挟まない。

　自分が口にしたことは絶対に曲げない。信念を貫き通す。これこそ、監督落合の最大の長所だろう。指揮官がブレれば、選手はなにを信用すればいいのか分からない。チームはガタガタになる。今の中日がまさにそれ。これを立て直せるのは、落合を置いて他にいない。

韓国系動き慰安婦の“聖地”になった米グレンデール市

米カリフォルニア州グレンデール市で慰安婦像が設置されてから１カ月が過ぎた９月初め、慰安婦をモチーフにした消印が出回った。「謝罪を拒否する日本の姿勢を批判する」という意味で、少女像を半分だけ描いた絵柄になっていた。

　地元の韓国系住民らの要請を受け、市中央郵便局は１カ月間の期間限定で消印を使用することを独断で決めたのだ。記者は連日、中央郵便局に足を運んだが、対応にあたった職員に「担当者がいない」と言われ、消印の存在を確認できなかった。

　日本政府からの通報を受け、米郵便庁が回収を指示したためだ。韓国系向けの現地紙によると、慰安婦問題を支援する団体は「日本政府の妨害だ」と反発、消印を市議会に展示しようとしている。

　これまで米国内では慰安婦碑が東海岸で設置されていたが、ソウルの日本大使館前と同じ慰安婦像が建てられたのはグレンデール市が初めて。韓国系の活動も活発で、同市は米国における慰安婦問題の“聖地”になりつつある。

　「グレンデール市の名前がこんな形で日本で知られることになるとは」

　市長、デーブ・ウィーバーはインタビューの中でこうため息をついた。「日韓の問題になぜグレンデールが首を突っ込まなくてはいけないのか」と思ったウィーバーは当初から慰安婦像の設置には反対だった
しかし、市議会のメンバー５人の中から１年交代で選ばれる市長に強い権限は与えられていない。慰安婦像設置はウィーバー以外の４人が賛成し、７月９日に正式に承認。３週間後に建立の式典が行われた。

　慰安婦像が設置された背景として、「姉妹都市」「友好都市」の枠組みがある。同市は２００９年に韓国慶尚南道の固城郡、１０年にはソウル近郊の金浦市と姉妹都市関係を結んだ。０８年から市計画委員になった韓国系のチャン・リーが旗振り役となった。グレンデールの人口約１９万人のうち韓国系は５・４％だが、リーはその後も姉妹都市を増やそうとした。韓国だけが突出することに市側が難色を示したため、リーは非公式な枠組みである「友好都市」を活用した。

　「友好都市はほぼ私の推薦で決まった。２年間で５都市を加えた」

　リーはこう胸を張る。そのリーも慰安婦問題に最初から熱心だったわけではない。０７年の米下院での慰安婦決議に取り組んだ同じ韓国系の友人からの働きかけがきっかけだった。

北京市郊外にある中国人民抗日戦争記念館は１８日、中国人強制連行の実態を記録した日本外務省の報告書を公開した。東京華僑総会の関係者から最近寄贈されたという。記念館は全てを複写して電子化し、年内にインターネット上でも閲覧できるようにする予定。

　記念館によると、報告書は中国人に労働を強いた事業所に関するものなど４０５点。敗戦後、中国側の要求に基づき外務省が１９４６年に作成したが、その後焼却処分と決定した。だが、調査に関わった人物が一部を保管、５０年に東京華僑総会の幹部に渡したという。

　中国抗日戦争史学会の歩平会長は「日本による侵略の歴史を学ぶための貴重な資料」と述べた。（
